It is important to emphasize that the facilities of The Orchids Hotel are also a cultural and architectural heritage; the house dates from 1892 and has been preserved and improved by its different owners who have exalted its neoclassical value.

WHO WE ARE

Inside are luxurious architectural details, such as plastered ceilings, carved and decorated in the best European bourgeois style, perfect and cozy lighting even in intimate areas such as bathrooms and tubs, wooden details that abound throughout the house, with cornices and finely carved carvings, in addition to an ideal and imposing spatial layout, which recalls the luxury of the capital's bourgeoisie of old.

OUR MISSION

HISTORY

The house next to the Casa de Poesía Silva and is surrounded by iconic national establishments that can be easily visited on guided tours that are scheduled from the hotel.

The house dates from 1892 and is located in the traditional "Calle de los Amigos"; classifying it as “Property of architectural conservation”. Our facilities began their property registration in 1954, when the Latorre Montoya Family acquired said property, and it later passed into the hands of Diego Sáenz Bermúdez, who sold it to the Brazilian businesswoman Anay Laronga.

Its architecture does not correspond to the colonial scheme but to the republican one; It was designed and built at the end of the 19th century “with a symmetrical neoclassical style with a pediment in the center, seeking to exalt the façade on the road in a bourgeois objective copied from Europe, fashionable in the 19th century, as a consequence of eclecticism”.

“Cornices and stone cladding instead of balconies or cabinets break with the colonial typology and give hierarchy and a relaxed rhythm to the two-story façade. Plasterwork, cornices, embossed ceilings and decorated carpentry emphasize an intention to create a first body on the colonial base of previous constructions.

A characteristic that invites luxury and comfort in this house is its generous natural lighting even in intimate spaces such as bathrooms and tubs, as well as the afternoon light entering through the glass canopy of the central patio. The backyard invites a haven of fresh air and sun next to a water feature

“The roof is made in traditional techniques of paired wooden beams with chisque boards and mortar, on which the clay tile sits” and is beautifully adorned with original floors in decorated cement tablets.

The colonial houses were not comfortable inside because they were cold, the Republican intervention improved comfort to a certain level with the canopy and the glass and wood enclosure of the 2nd floor. A recent intervention was found in 2009 in which fireplaces were added to most of its rooms; Likewise, it is observed that "the existing staircase did not correspond to the republican complex, nor its typology, and its authenticity is questioned and it does not add value to the space."

The orchids arrived at the House in 2009 as part of the dream of a Spanish-Brazilian couple who were their owners for 5 years and deeply admired the exotic character of this species, one of whose varieties was declared Bogota's Flagship Flower in December 2003 ( Odontoglossum Luteopurpureum).

The house, after being declared the flagship flower of Bogotá, becomes a private property belonging to Mr. Román Blanco (of Spanish descent) and his wife, who started the CASA HOTEL LAS ORQUIDEAS project, wanting to turn the house into a exclusive space for illustrious guests of the capital, but with a much more modern atmosphere, which in turn, would serve as its own residence. Over the years, and for personal reasons, the owners of the house decide to return to Spain, giving way to its acquisition by Mr. JESÚS GUERRERO HERNANDES in 2011, who retains the idea of maintaining a luxury hotel. for distinguished guests visiting the capital, but with a NEOCLASSICAL style concept, thus giving way to THE ORCHIDS HOTEL. To date, the hotel continues to provide excellent luxury service and is listed as one of the best luxury hotels in the capital.

PIECES OF ART AND COLLECTION

Generating its own identity, and having a privileged location such as THE ORCHIDS HOTEL,

…it seeks to create a space for art and culture that is consistent with it, which is why the hotel functions as an art gallery and exhibition of cultural pieces that create an environment and a space worthy of the republican period of the capital.

Among the works of art we find works by artists of the highest level such as the master ARMANDO VILLEGAS and the artist ANA MERCEDES HOYOS, in addition to having pieces of pre-Columbian art and official newspapers of the time, thus turning the atmosphere of the house into a historical gallery in every corner of it.
